Magic Garden

When I moved to college, my parents decided to move out of the Bay Area and into a botanical garden in Sonoma County called Western Hills Garden. This garden has been where I visit when I'm home now and is completely magical. There are rivers and bridges, plants and cats, and frogs to catch. I wanted to create a collage using found footage of the garden from the internet and from all the friends and family who live in and visit the garden. I used clips from many sources to create a full scene, attempting to encompass the magic the garden entails. I wanted to play with scale to show how unreal and fascinating parts of this garden feel.

Rot

My project explores ideas of what It feels like to waste the day in bed as a form of distraction or rest, when in actuality, it is not solving any of the problems at hand. Rot follows a narrative of a girl who has been in bed for hours, switching between device, snack, and app, slowy falling deeper and deeper into anxiety, and depression. She attempts to escape but instead gets sucked in over and over to the cyclical and addictive nature of social media. The story is parralelled by her dancing on a mountain, showing what would really be an escape, and when she closes her eyes and lets herself rest, she is finally there. However she never actually gets there, only in her dreams and through other distractions such as music, can she escape this technology driven world. The video is filled with overwhelming sound of all the different social medias, tv shows, microwaves, thoughts, songs etc. I wanted to add feelings of ADHD to this expirence, as thoughts repeat, and her brain is constantly overstimulated.

Till I reach you

an ode to collage and happy places.
